Team Reditron Completes An Arteco LPR PoC

A License Plate Recognition (LPR) proof of concept (PoC) was completed on the 10th October 2016 in an industrial town just north of Pretoria.

Reditron staff that conducted this PoC was Yssel Swanepoel, Neil Marks & Ruan Venter. Dean Sichelschmidt from Arteco Global was also in attendance.

The clients requirements were:
  1. The camera and LPR software had to perform well with high traffic volume.
  2. Low to high speeds (+- 160km/h) must not offer different read rates.
  3. Performance should be equal in all conditions whether day or night.
  4. Number plates must be accurately read with a very low misread rate.
  5. The entire solution had to be able to cater for the integration of stolen or suspect vehicles
  6. The solution had to provide real-time alerts on suspect vehicles and allow the operator be able to view the live and event footage.
  7. Reporting was needed to be able to understand the events post incident

The Result:
An accuracy rate of 99.5% was achieved for the entire PoC using the Arteco high speed LPR camera with the Arteco LPR embedded algorithm.

Misreads were related to vehicles that had their number plates partially hidden. All other number plates were accurately read by the LPR camera with the information being sent back to Arteco NEXT. The entire project is to managed by the Arteco EasyTraffic solution using Arteco LPR cameras.

The system integrator approved the PoC without any hesitation given the results received.
